Adapted "Walking Man" cartoon recreated in Inkscape

Adapted from the guide on page 10 of 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart, I've added some colour and also a little piece of grass with a couple of flowers. All good practise in Inkscape.

Although I am currently working with cartoons, I still like to try and get practical and more or less accurate colours. For the Rugby shirt, I simple carried out a Google image search and then when I found an image I liked, I used a really handy desktop utility called ColorPic, which returns the hex code of any colour on screen. It's free and absolutely essential for any budding colourblind artist working digitally.

Colourblindness - Did you know?

Colourblindness is genetic.

Too much orthodontia cartoon recreated in Inkscape

I've started working my way through the tutorials built into Inkscape and reading one article before I try drawing each picture. That way I actually get to learn Inkscape properly as I go along. I'm learning loads of stuff about vector drawing and really do recommend the program. And it's FREE! What's not free, is the book 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart, but it is well worth the few pounds it costs, whether it's for you or the kids. I'm over 50 and finding it really useful!!!

Colourblindness - Did you know?

“What colour is this?” is the most annoying question you can ask your colourblind friend.

Basketball Star recreated in Inkscape

I expect these cartoon characters would be a lot quicker to draw with pen, pencil and paper than in a vector graphics program, but recreating them this way gives me great practice in Inkscape. This character is from page 8 of 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart.

Old West Sheriff recreated in Inkscape

"There's a new sheriff in this here town. This is the kind of cowtown that needs a lot of law. There's right and there's wrong. You got to do one or the other. You do the one and you're living. You do the other and you may be walking around, but you're dead as a beaver hat."

The Old West Sheriff is recreated here in the free vector art package Inkscape using the guide on page 7 of 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart.

The Sheriff talk includes phrases from The Alamo and Winchester '73.

The Man with a Plan cartoon was recreated using the free vector art package Inkscape following the guide on page 6 of 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart. For a book with so few pages, I am learning loads and getting some good practice and insight into Inkscape as I go along.

Glasses Girl cartoon recreated in Inkscape

She looks more like a woman than a girl, but hey-ho. She is recreated in Inkscape from page 4 of the 25 Quick Cartoon Characters book by Christopher Hart. I've done a quick animation test on this head using Crazy Talk Animator 3 and posted the result on my Mad Dog Youtube channel.
