Fashion Plate cartoon recreated in Inkscape

And I'm back to the book 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart, with this fashionista being recreated from the guide on page 13. As usual, I used Inkscape vector graphics program.

Sticky (stickman) post

Oh the joy of doing something really simple... The fantastic thing about stickmen is that they are simple to draw, are easy to put in the position you want them, and are a great starting point for filling out into a fully fledged cartoon.

Dog Characters

Just the beginning of working on some dog characters. Not sure how well this is going to work out yet.

Annoyed Lady cartoon recreated in Inkscape

The annoyed lady is another cartoon recreated in Inkscape from the book 25 quick cartoon characters by Christopher Hart. She can be found on page 12 of the book.

Dog Ends cartoon

Well, I suppose practise makes perfect. I hope so anyhow, and will continue practising, both with drawing cartoons and in using Inkscape.

Inkscape Sheep Trial cartoon

Not so much a sheepdog trial, rather a trial of me drawing cartoon sheep in Inkscape.

Cartooning Books

These are some good cartooning books I have in my collection. Clicking on a book will take you to its description on Amazon.

Runner cartoon recreated in Inkscape

I struggled a little on the colouring and shading on this one although I don't think it turned out too bad and I really don't want to spend a massive amount of time on it. This is the subject of page 11 of 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart.

Adapted "Walking Man" cartoon recreated in Inkscape

Adapted from the guide on page 10 of 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart, I've added some colour and also a little piece of grass with a couple of flowers. All good practise in Inkscape.

Although I am currently working with cartoons, I still like to try and get practical and more or less accurate colours. For the Rugby shirt, I simple carried out a Google image search and then when I found an image I liked, I used a really handy desktop utility called ColorPic, which returns the hex code of any colour on screen. It's free and absolutely essential for any budding colourblind artist working digitally.

Colourblindness - Did you know?

Colourblindness is genetic.

Too much orthodontia cartoon recreated in Inkscape

I've started working my way through the tutorials built into Inkscape and reading one article before I try drawing each picture. That way I actually get to learn Inkscape properly as I go along. I'm learning loads of stuff about vector drawing and really do recommend the program. And it's FREE! What's not free, is the book 25 Quick Cartoon Characters by Christopher Hart, but it is well worth the few pounds it costs, whether it's for you or the kids. I'm over 50 and finding it really useful!!!
